Pepsi International in Cork have introduced bar coding to the supply and movement of raw materials in their warehouses.

This involved installing a new Symbol wireless system to run PDT portable terminals and VRC forklift terminals using host (IBM5250) emulation. The business software needed redesigning to include FIFO regulations and warehouse location data, and new labels were also designed by Codemove, for Pepsi and suppliers, to incorporate a specific bar code standard with the required information about the product and purchase order number.

Benefits:The already efficient processes have been greatly enhanced by real time accurate data.
The operations which have been improved include Goods Receipt, Quality Inspection, Location Enquiries, and Raw Material Transfers.
The breakdown of pallets and staging of materials for production have also been rationalized and new networked Zebra printers, triggered by the RF terminals, allow quick label printing for re-allocated raw materials.
